We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. The Bible teaches that no matter how hard we try to do good works or find God, we can't please Him because we are spiritually dead and He is perfectly holy. We all fail the test of that perfection. In our sin we also actively rebel against God. We might enjoy our rebellion for a season, but the consequences for it are fully deserved, even if we don't think so. Many people can testify to the fact that the outcomes of sin are bitter ones. But even so, God is so loving and patient with us that even as sinners, we are doing much better than we deserve. Why doesn't God simply judge us now? He would have every right to, but God is very patient with us, and His mercies--even to sinners--are profound. And, in His amazing and gracious love toward us, He has no not left manking without a solution to the greatest of all human problems: sin.
The good news of the Gospel is that God humbled Himself and became a man in the form of His perfect son, Jesus. On the cross, Jesus gave his life to pay the penalty for our sins and then rose again from the dead, utterly conquering sin and death. Now, instead of trying to please God through our own efforts, we humble ourselves and simply trust that the sacrifice of Christ on the cross has completely satisfied God's wrath against us. God himself now graciously calls sinners like us to turn from our sins and to believe that he has done for us what we could never do for ourselves. More than that, He adopts believers as his own children, giving us his Holy Spirit and gives our spirits new birth and the hope of one day seeing our bodies resurrected from death, even as Christ was raised from the dead. Believing this Gospel means that we completely change our minds about our sin, turning from it as we lean on the finished work of Jesus Christ as our only hope.
Do you believe this?
Believing or not believing the Gospel is a serious matter, the difference between an eternity with God in heaven or eternal separation and punishment in hell. There are many things in life we tend to brush off or avoid thinking about, but the question of where you will spend eternity is no light matter. Maybe you've never heard the Gospel explained like this before, and something is stirring in your soul. If that's the case, or if you have more questions, we'd like to speak with you. Please contact the church office and ask to speak with a pastor or consider joining one of our Alpha courses, designed for those with questions about God and the Christian faith. Most of all, we encourage you to visit our church and hear God's Word preached each week so that you can better understand the incredible news of salvation in Jesus Christ.
